I have about 844 friends. What to do?
Check it out, much more to come. Become a fan… that would be great.
John Scofield used to be a pretty straight ahead bebop guy. Listen to 'Rough House' for an example of that.
But he has really branched out and created a unique style combining groove, funk, blues, jazz etc.
This is an example of his new approach. Very inventive, funky and bluesy. Love it.
This Major Scale Mode video shows the 3-note-per-string patterns for the guitar fretboard.
These modal patterns are based on using the 1st finger for the root note. They clearly demstrate the difference between each mode.
Just remember…
- for major chords (the 1 and 4 chords of the major scale) you can use the Ionian or Lydian modes
- for dom7 chords use the Mixolydian mode
- for mi7 chords, use the Dorian, Phrygian or Aeolian modes
The next video will show a quick and dirty way to play modes with pentatonic scales.
